Four of our reels were created out in the open, the others in closed spaces we could find. These photos capture the quiet work that makes the magic possible.

The surrealists blurred art and life, and so do we. This reel imagines a whimsical gathering that could have unfolded anywhere in their circle — playful, strange, and full of symbolism. It brings to life the surrealist spirit that inspired Lee Miller and her world.

In 1944, Lee Miller photographed Marlene Dietrich in Paris. Here, we reimagine that encounter elsewhere, weaving their presence into the story of Berlin.
1930s Audition Reel
Every career begins with an audition. This reel reimagines the early steps of Marlene Dietrich and Zarah Leander, both of whom began in Berlin. For Marlene, the political climate became a turning point, leading her to leave for America and speak out against fascism. Zarah, by contrast, rose to fame in Germany, her career marked by both success and controversy. The reel captures the glamour, nerves, and ambition of the 1930s - and the very different paths these two icons would take.
The Dancer I — “ War’s Grim Glory”
Filmed in a deserted overgrown graveyard in the UK, this reel tells of a woman mourning a wartime loss. Interwoven with surrealist imagery inspired by Lee Miller’s photo book Grim Glory, it recalls scenes that did unfold for countless women during and after the war.
The Dancer II — Centre Bagatelle
This reel is inspired by a true story from Centre Bagatelle, when a young woman met her future husband at a dance just as the Berlin Wall was going up. Through movement, we capture a moment where love and history are inseparably bound.
